WORKMAN

Joe sent me a picture of himself when he first started working at the job he had held for over 36 years. He also sent an old work glove that he had used on that job. The picture is a bit blurry as it was taken with one of those old Brownie box cameras. He wanted to have both the glove and the picture together as a memory of the time he had spent on the job.

FAMILY SHRINE

A sailor returns home safely from World War II

This is a "cut out" picture of a sailor just home from the war; since people took very few pictures back then, this was a monumental event as he came home safely. A picture of a battleship is beneath the sailor and unique fabric was chosen to represent ocean waves.

For the "cut out" images - the photos are mounted on a half inch thick heavy backing so that the figures stand away from the background which gives it the illusion of depth.

Have you had a loved one pass away and wanted to hold their memory? Have you had an outstanding event in your life that you wanted to remember? What do you do with those photos and mementos? Maybe they get put away in a box.... somewhere....... Those photos get stuck away in one of those scrapbooks. When do you EVER look at them? Wouldn't you rather honor that person or event with a unique assemblage art piece that displays those photos and mementos? When you order your own art piece, you also get ONE FREE Consultation.

EDITH

Edith sent a series of various items: some vintage placemats, a picture of her as a young girl, her baby shoes, some lace her grandmother had made for her years ago and a fan her father had given her when he was stationed in the Orient with the Army. She wanted them all represented and this was the result.

FAMILY TREE

A family sent me a few photos and wanted some type of "family tree" image to be depicted. This art piece was just one (of about eleven) from an altered book that was made for the family. This page shows a zipper, as a metaphor for "zipping" the family together.

An altered book is a book that sometimes has pages torn out, pages added, pages that have layers of paint, interesting papers, photos, printed pictures, old objects, found objects, ribbons or more. Very labor intensive.

This piece shows Ted (the son) as a young boy with his dog, the daughter, a vintage picture of the family and the Grandmother who helped raise them. The background is fabric taken from the apron Grandmother wore when she cooked for the family. “Details, details, details” was one of Grandmother's favorite expressions. This is very personal to the family!

DANCER

This family contacted me wanting a remembrance piece for their aunt who had been a ballet dancer when she was a young woman. They sent a picture of her in her ballet dress and wanted it to be the focal point of the piece. They also sent various vintage photos of her family, of the house where she lived as a child, a letter the family wanted to feature and of her having fun with friends. I also added a “ticket” to one of her performances.
