ANGEL WITH FLOWERS

For years I've never been able to find angels for my art work. This year, for some reason, I am finding a number of angels. This angel was a kneeling angel bottle that I found at a thrift shop. It had no cap on the bottle so there was a need to cover the opening with something. I saw a small vase that had an interesting color of gold (or maybe closer to bronze) and an intricate design. The angel fit perfectly on it. But now what?

It was some time later that I ran across some gold star fabric at a local store. Since I tend to collect frames during my yard sale and thrift store travels and group them together in a special room, I easily found a frame for the angel and vase in my "stash room". I painted the backboard and put the gold star fabric over it. This star fabric would go behind the angel representing the heavens. I placed the angel and vase in the center of the piece and stepped back to ponder a moment. Hmmm.... looks empty. Not done yet so I set the piece aside to be completed at a later date.

On another thrift store trip, I came across some interesting wooden salt and pepper shakers. At that moment, I didn't know what they would be used for but I got them anyway. One day as I was looking at the not done angel piece, I happened to see the salt and pepper shakers. HEY! They could go on either side of the angel and vase! Super!

Now for the bottle opening problem and the local dollar store had the answer! I found these beautifully colored flowers and all the pieces finally fit together! Wonderful! I really loved it! At last it is ready!

MUSIC BOX

I had found a lovely vintage music box at one of the Estate sales I attended and it sat around for a long time as I didn’t know what I wanted to do with it. Sure, it was fine as it was, a plain wood box that had been a jewelry box. Played a nice tune and had a mirror and a ballet dancer inside. Blah! One day (as is known to happen), I got inspired to do something with it.

As I thought the box was very plain, I decided to decorate it. I fabricated some interesting designs and applied them to the box and then applied
layers of specialty paints to the designs to make them stand out.  Looking good. Had a broken earring in my stash and used it as the opener for the box. Inside , I liked the tune and the ballet dancer, but now what? I  found some matching pictures of women that I put on either side of the dancer as “watchers”.

Then around the mirror I used some vintage flower pictures that I cut out to fit the space.

(can’t see them in the photo).  Later, I came across some same sized vials that “happened” to fit the space in the box. I spray painted them gold, as now they were “holding” some expensive elixir!  Complete!
